Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has a rib fracture and will be out for “a while,” manager Alex Cora told reporters before the team opened a three-game series in Cleveland against the Guardians.

Casas, 24, was already on the 10-day injured list, but tests revealed the fracture. Cora did not offer a specific timetable to how long Casas will be out.

He felt discomfort in his rib area during his first at-bat in Boston’s 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday and left the game.

He has six home runs and has 10 RBIs in 22 games.

The Red Sox have been hit hard with injuries, but outfielder Tyler O’Neill, who was on the 7-day concussion IL after a collision last week, was activated before Tuesday’s opener.

In the corresponding roster move, catcher Tyler Heineman was put on the 10-day IL because of a right hamstring strain.
